Root Scaling & Planing (Deep Cleaning), a Non-Surgical Procedure Used to Treat Gum Disease, Vo Dentistry, Lawrenceville, GA 30043

Image
Root scaling and planning (deep cleaning)  is a non-surgical procedure for removing plaque and calculus, which cause inflammation to the gingival tissue and surrounding bone (gum disease).  It is the most effective way to treat gum disease before it becomes severe.  They are often painless that you may not be aware until your gums and the supporting bone are seriously damaged.  Shown below are the results of a good root scaling and planning done at out office.  The surrounding tissues are much healthier after the procedures For more information, please visit our website at www.vodentistry.net or contact our office at 678 985-8087

Small Incisors (Peg Lateral Incisors) Were Restored Using Tooth Colored Materials

Image
Peg Lateral Incisors (Bolton's Discrepancy): at times, for several reasons, the maxillary lateral incisors do not form properly. Maxillary lateral incisors are the smaller teeth on either side of the top two front teeth. This malformation of the tooth is genetically determined. The malformation can take on several different appearances, and both teeth or only one of the teeth may be affected. The teeth can be shorter in height or lesser in width or a combination of the two. This type of deviation from the normal shape of the tooth is called a peg lateral incisor. The solution to this cosmetic problem can be simple or complicated, depending on what shape the tooth has when it is diagnosed and treatment is begun. If the peg tooth (or teeth) is just slightly more narrow than normal and there is a space available on either side or both sides of it, the tooth can be bonded with a directly placed composite restoration as shown below by Dr Lia Vo. Dental Implants To Replace Missing Teeth

Image
Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically inserted into the jawbone.  Because implants fuse to your jawbone, they provide stable support for artificial teeth.  Implants are used to replace missing teeth.  They can also be used to support your partials and dentures, preventing them from slipping or shifting in your mouth.  Healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant are critical factors to receive implants. In addition, meticulous oral hygiene and regular dental visits are critical to the long-term success of dental implants. Shown below is our patient with generalized spaces and missing upper right lateral incisor.  Orthodontic treatments were performed by Dr. Nguyen  to consolidate spaces and establish an ideal space for missing tooth to be placed.  Implant was inserted and restored by Dr Lia Vo. Orthodontic Treatments with Teeth Extraction by Dr Quang Nguyen

Image
To extract or not to extract of permanent teeth for orthodontic treatments has been a controversial topic in the orthodontic community for many years.   A thorough diagnosis by a skilled clinician including facial profile, soft tissue thickness, lip competency, dental crowding & protrusion, arch forms … should be carried out for each individual patient. At our office we try to minimize teeth extractions whenever possible to preserve integrity of arches and give broad smiles.  However, extraction can be helpful in certain cases.  Shown below is a case treated by Dr Nguyen when extraction is needed. A beautiful smile within an attractive balanced face is always our goal.  Please visit our website at www.gaorthocare.com for more information.

Orthodontic Treatment of Dental Crossbite Without Teeth Extraction or Jaw Surgery

Image
A crossbite or underbite is a condition when you bite down your upper teeth fall behind your lower teeth.  It can happen in front (anterior crossbite) or in the back (posterior crossbite) and one side (unilateral) or both sides (bilateral) of the jaw.   Crossbite can involve a single tooth or multiple teeth and it can be related to dental, skeletal origin, or both.  In young patients it is often treated with skeletal expansion on the upper arch followed by braces to align their teeth.  However, in adult patients jaw surgery is often needed to correct it. A crossbite is more than just a cosmetic imperfection; it could result in many conditions such as TMJ, loose teeth, receding gums, excessive wear of enamel on permanent teeth, and asymmetrical growth of your face and jaw. Shown below is a crossbite case that was treated at our office by Dr Nguyen without teeth extraction or surgery. If you suspect that you or your children have a crossbite and wan...
